Harvey and Daughters

news

Sadly, on March 12, 2012, Ricki Harvey, the mother of Kathy Harvey, Harvey & Daughters founder and CEO passed away unexpectedly. We are sorry to see such a vibrant, loving woman leave us but are glad to see that she has passed down these qualities to our equally vibrant and loving boss, Kathy. Our team at Harvey & Daughters joined Kathy and friends and family of her mother to celebrate Ricki's life and show our support for them during their difficult time. Please keep Kathy and her family in your thoughts by reading this poem about Ricki, written by her family.

It all began in October of 1923,
When another member joined the Hannan Family.

Frederica was her given name
But being called Ricky was her claim to fame.

She grew up in Ogdensburg, a very small town
In upstate New York where the snow does abound.

As a teen she played golf, had a pretty good swing
She could chip, she could putt, she could hit anything.

In her twenties, her interests would suddenly change
When she met a man named Frank on the golf range.

Too anxious to wait for the cathedral to be finished,
They were wed in the church hall, their joy not diminished.

With a move to Maryland & family of 3,
They'd establish their roots...how happy they'd be.

But the number of Harveys continued to grow,
So on to Gothard Road the family did go.

One more addition made the family complete,
and a house on Pot Spring became the Harvey retreat.

Keeping track of 5 kids could be quite a chore,
But Mom always would smile and be ready for more.

Getting a sitter to watch us came with a price,
"Name it," she begged. "I promise they're nice."

For Mom, playing golf was always a treat
With all of her pals she would regularly meet.

On the Eagles' Nest course, she'd conquer the hill,
But never too serious...she played for the thrill.

She loved to shop at the Hecht Company
When the clerks saw her coming, they'd jump up with glee.

For before you knew it, in a very short time,
Their volume of sales would rapidly climb.

Although she had an eye for fashion,
Socializing with friends was really her passion.

If we couldn't reach her on Fridays, we had a good hunch
She was getting her hair done or somewhere for lunch.

Her happiness blossomed in the years to come,
Blessed with 8 grandchildren and known as Mum Mum.

She moved up the road to her place at Mercy Ridge,
Her meals were taken care of, no need to stock the fridge.

After getting settled & within no time at all,
She was meeting new friends and having a ball.

Over the years what gave her cause to boast,
Was family & friends, for they meant the most.

Our mother was special, we loved her a lot.
All would agree we hit the jackpot!

So, here's to you, Mom, what we'd most like to say
Is we all love you dearly and in our hearts you will stay.
